Artist's Statement
My goal is not to satisfy listeners, but to affect them. This means I am willing to leave tension unresolved in my work, but it also means I strive to understand the mechanisms by which people are affected by music. Creating tension alone is not difficult; but I strive to regulate this tension and balance it with the promise of order.
At university I discovered the science of musical tuning, and with it a rich, intricate world of tonality being ignored by modern musicians. I devised ways to realize these microtonal harmonies using computers, which became my favorite tool for music creation in standard tuning as well.
I cannot imagine devoting my life to something without wanting to understand its inner workings, and I apply this philosophy to tonality, music perception, and computers. I hope that, between these three, I can contribute something worthwhile to the world around me.
